Morganite: The Rose Beryl

Morganite is a pink-to-peach variety of beryl, the same mineral family that includes emerald and aquamarine, and it was named in 1910 after the financier and gem collector J.P. Morgan. The finest specimens come from Brazil, Madagascar, and Afghanistan, where the stone forms in pegmatite deposits and occasionally reaches crystals of extraordinary size and clarity. Its colour is produced by trace amounts of manganese, and unlike some pink stones it does not require heat treatment to achieve its characteristic warmth. Morganite has been associated with compassion, emotional healing, and the kind of unconditional love that does not require explanation, and its colour carries that quality in a way that is immediately felt rather than analysed. It is, in the simplest terms, one of the most quietly beautiful stones we work with.
