A New Dawn

ALBA means dawn in Latin, and this necklace earns that name through the most literal possible means: it is built from three stones that together hold the quality of early morning light over water. Moonstone heishi beads at 6 mm carry the pale blue-white luminosity of the stone's adularescence; sunstone beads at 5 mm respond with a warm copper-gold aventurescent shimmer; and a coral centrepiece at approximately 18 mm grounds the composition with the organic warmth of the ocean. Gold-plated brass accents connect the composition throughout. At 41 cm with a 4 cm extension, it is a necklace that reads beautifully from a distance and rewards looking closely.

Moonstone, Sunstone, and Coral

Moonstone, from Sri Lanka, India, and Madagascar, carries a soft blue-white adularescence associated with feminine intuition and the cyclical nature of growth. Sunstone, found notably in Oregon, Norway, and India, carries a warm, aventurescent shimmer associated with vitality and personal power. Coral, the only organic gemstone in this necklace, is formed over years by living marine organisms, and each baroque centrepiece piece is unique in its form. Together they hold the full energy of a new day: intuition meeting vitality, the cool of moonlight giving way to the warmth of the sun, all of it anchored by the grounding force of the sea.

Wearing ALBA

This necklace is richest in warm weather and natural light, where the shimmer of both the moonstone and the sunstone is most visible.
