The Eternal Flower, in Blue and Green

AYANNA means eternal flower in Native American tradition, and this necklace earns that name through a colour pairing that is vivid, unexpected, and completely harmonious. AAA-grade larimar beads at 3 mm carry the rare Caribbean turquoise-blue that is found nowhere else on earth, while 4.5 mm emerald cube beads respond with a deep, saturated forest green. The contrast between the two is the kind that looks as though it was designed by someone with an extraordinarily assured eye: two rare stones, two strong colours, one piece that looks completely right.

Two of the World's Most Geographically Rare Gemstones

Larimar is found in only one location on earth: a single mountain in the Barahona province of the Dominican Republic, discovered in 1974 and named from the Spanish word for sea. Its soft turquoise-blue, streaked with white and pale grey, comes from copper substituting for calcium in its pectolite structure, and the finest specimens have a depth and translucency that makes them look almost liquid. Emerald, by contrast, belongs to the ancient world of gemstones, mined in Egypt as early as 1500 BCE and today produced most finely in Colombia, where the chromium-and-vanadium-coloured beryl reaches a warmth and depth unmatched by specimens from other sources. Two rare stones, two different geological stories, brought together in a single necklace designed to be worn close to the skin every day.
