LUCINA is named for the Roman goddess of light and new beginnings, the guardian of transitions and first moments. This necklace pairs natural freshwater pearls with sunstone beads at 4 mm, with a single gold-plated cube bead at the centre that holds the composition together. The pairing is one of organic and mineral, cool and warm, the pearl's soft iridescent glow meeting the sunstone's aventurescent copper-gold shimmer in a combination that catches the light differently at every angle. At 40 cm with a 4 cm extension, it sits at a versatile length for both standalone wear and layering.

Freshwater Pearls and Sunstone

Freshwater pearls are the only gemstones produced by a living organism, cultivated primarily in China in freshwater mussels over a period of years. Their lustre comes from nacre, a combination of calcium carbonate crystals and organic proteins laid down in thin layers over the nucleus, and AAA-grade specimens have a warmth and organic depth that distinguishes them immediately from synthetic or low-grade material. Sunstone is a variety of feldspar, found notably in Oregon in the United States, Norway, and India, and its characteristic aventurescence, a warm copper-to-gold shimmer visible within the stone, comes from aligned hematite or copper inclusions that reflect light internally. It is a stone of vitality, personal power, and the kind of confident, solar energy that moves forward without hesitation. Together, pearl and sunstone create a necklace of unusual material richness: two very different expressions of natural light, side by side.
