Sunstone and Freshwater Pearl: Solar Energy and Organic Grace

Sunstone is a variety of feldspar found notably in Oregon in the United States, Norway, and India, and its characteristic internal shimmer, called aventurescence, comes from aligned copper or hematite inclusions that reflect light within the stone in a warm, glowing way that changes with every angle. It is associated with vitality, personal power, and the kind of confident, generous energy that gives rather than takes. Freshwater pearls, cultivated primarily in China, are the only gemstones produced by a living organism, their lustre accumulated layer by layer over years of patient nacre formation.
