Morganite: The Rose Beryl

Morganite is a pink to peach variety of beryl, the same mineral family that includes emerald and aquamarine, and it was first identified in 1910 and named in honour of the American financier and gemstone collector J.P. Morgan. The finest specimens come from Brazil, Madagascar, and Afghanistan, where the stone forms in granitic pegmatite deposits and occasionally reaches extraordinary crystal size. Its colour, which ranges from the palest blush to a warm rose-copper depending on the specimen, is produced by trace amounts of manganese, and unlike many pink stones it does not require treatment to achieve its characteristic warmth. Morganite is associated with the heart chakra and with a gentle, compassionate energy that has made it one of the most popular stones in fine jewellery over the past two decades.
