Moonstone: The Stone Whose Light Comes From Within

Moonstone is a member of the feldspar mineral family found in significant deposits in Sri Lanka, India, and Madagascar, and its defining optical characteristic, adularescence, is created by the interaction of light with alternating layers of two different feldspar minerals within the stone's internal structure. The result is a light that appears to move and breathe inside the stone rather than reflecting from its surface. It has been associated with feminine intuition, cycles of growth and renewal, and the practice of trusting inner knowledge without needing external confirmation, in cultures from ancient Rome, where it was believed to be formed from solidified moonlight, to India, where it remains considered sacred to this day.
